Enoch traded his four horse team and wagon to Joseph P. Fuller for his homestead claim, he settled in what was then known as Yucaipa Canyon and began raising spuds. The rich soil yielded exceptional crops of potatoes and the name Yucaipa (the Serrano Indian word for wet land) was soon changed to Potato Canyon. Potatoes and oak wood bringing 5 cents a cord.
