Enoch's parents, Ezra a farmer, and Susanna (Sherman) Parrish heading West from Illinois, arrived in Utah in 1852. Enoch paying his fare with three cows to ride a freight wagon, took the hot desert route from Salt Lake City to the San Bernardino Valley, arriving in 1857. For the next ten years he hauled freight back and forth along the Utah trail.
